Well, we’ve been looking forward to getting a Psyduck because my wife wants one and we finally got one.
As my son and I were headed home after driving his mom to work, we decided to stop by at Jollibee to try our luck again at getting a PSyduck.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, Jollibee has this Pokemon collectible thing going that’s about to end on March 31. It’s the Pokemon Evolution Surprise by Jollibee Kiddei Meals.
Now these are blind boxes so you don’t really get to choose what you’re getting. So, it’s like sweepstakes.
And when we finally got home, we decided to open it and were very delighted by what we got.
Psyduck!
The happiness on face and glee in his voice when he finally got a Psyduck for his mom was priceless.
And while they were talking, I imahined what it would be like to really own a real Psyduck.
So, late at night, after I got my son to bed, I started researching about Psyduck because I know very little about Pokemons.
And here’s what I got.

My wife’s personal favorite Pokemon is Psyduck. Because of that, our son also wants to get one.
Me?
I want one for real.
Just for the heck of it.
But, after reading Bulbapedia, I’ve come to realize that he might not be the most ideal pet to have.
First the headache situation is real.
Psyduck suffers from chronic migraines that cause psychic power surges. You’d need a calm, quiet enviroment… no loud music, no yelling, minimal stress.
In a typical Davao household with karaoke neighbors and roosters crowing at 4am, this is challenging.
Soundproofing recommended.
Temperature is an issue.
Psyduck evolved in cooler climates (18-25 degrees C). Davao’s 27-32 degrees C heat will make the headaches worse. You’d need air conditioning in their enclosure or at least a large pond with shade. Think P2,000-3,000 monthly electric bill just for the Psyduck.
The psychic powers are unpredictable.
When Psyducks headache reaches critical levels, objects start floating, telepathic waves happen, confusion attacks occur involuntarily. Your furniture might levitate. Psyduck might accidentally read your intrusive thoughts.
Its… complicated.
Diet is managable tho.
Small fish (like tilapia fingerlings available at Bankerohan Market), aquatic insects, kangkong, water lettuce. They need constant access to clean water for swimming and drinking.
The good news? Psyduck is genuinely docile and sweet when not in pain. They’re loyal once bonded.
LEGAL STATUS: Requires exotic Water-Psychic type permit from DENR Pokemon Division (theoretical)
CARE TAGS: Chronic Headaches • Temperature Sensitive • Psychic Powers • Needs Large Pond • Adorable But Confused
Lyle,
Getting mommy her favorite Pokemon shows you really pay attention to what she loves. Even if you cant get a real Psyduck (because they dont exist… yet), maybe we can get her a really nice Psyduck plushie from Toy Kingdom or a Psyduck-themed gift in the future.
She’ll love that you remembered.
Remember that when you’re older.
TRIVIA:
• Constantly holds head due to chronic migraine pain
• Psychic powers only activate during severe headache episodes
• Has no memory of using psychic abilities
• Often pops out of Pokeball at wrong times (forgetful)
• Despite confusion, surprisingly strong in battle
• Evolves into Golduck when headache is finally cured
