Are you serious?
An elephant?
In Davao?
And an African Elephant at that!
Let me explain why this is the most ridiculous pet idea ever.
Space:
An adult African elephant needs at MINIMUM 3-5 acres to roam.
That’s 12,000-20,000 square meters.
The average Davao subdivision lot is 120-200 square meters.
You’d need 60-100 times that.
Plus they’ll destroy everything… elephants push down trees, dig up ground, knock over structures.
Your fence?
Meaningless.
They can push through concrete blocks.
Food:
Elephants eat 150-300 kg of plant matter DAILY.
That’s 150-300 kilos.
Every.
Single.
Day.
In Davao, where would you source that?
They need grasses, leaves, bark, fruits.
You’d need a full-time farming operation just to feed one elephant.
Water:
They drink 140-200 liters of water daily and need access to bathing.
You’d need an industrial water supply.
Or at least a large pond.
Legal:
Elephants are CITES Appendix I (most endangered). International trade is banned except for scientific research. Philippines has zero elephants in private ownership. DENR would never approve this. This is a zoo-only animal.
Cost:
Initial cost if you could somehow import one? ₱50-100 million minimum. Annual care? ₱5-10 million for food, vet, mahout salaries, facilities.
LEGAL STATUS: ILLEGAL for private ownership. CITES Appendix I. Endangered species.
