I Finally Bought a Giraffe, Yey!

Posted on April 1, 2025 by Chester Canonigo Leave a Comment on I Finally Bought a Giraffe, Yey!

This might be the most unexpected announcement I’ve ever written for HayopETC.com, and honestly, even I’m still trying to process how quickly everything happened over the past few days.

After months of quiet negotiations, website decisions, and long-term planning for my pet-related ventures, I can finally share something that still feels unreal:

I finally bought a giraffe!

If you’ve been following my posts recently, you probably saw the announcement that I sold Biyernes.com to TheSamba.com.

That deal opened up a surprising amount of freedom for me—freedom to explore new ideas, expand HayopETC.com, and pursue dreams I would never have considered possible a year ago.

One of those dreams, apparently, is owning a giraffe.

How It Happened

Let me explain before people start imagining I drove to Africa with a cargo truck.

The purchase came from a site I’ve been quietly monitoring for a while: RefurbishedGiraffes.com.

They specialize in rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming large exotics that were previously kept in private collections, small shows, or facilities that could no longer maintain them.

Last week, one of their team members reached out to me after seeing HayopETC.com’s articles about responsible exotic pet ownership.

They told me about a particular giraffe—healthy, young, already trained for human interaction, and requiring a long-term home with proper space to roam.

And the price? 500,000 Pounds.

It was such a specific amount that I had to double-check if I was reading it correctly. But after the sale of Biyernes.com, something in me said, “Maybe it’s time.”

A bizarre thought, yes. But sometimes bizarre ideas are the ones that push us forward.

Preparing the Farm

Of course, the moment I said yes, reality hit me like a bag of cement:
Where do you even put a giraffe?

Thankfully, the farm provides enough land—but it’s not giraffe-ready.

Not even close.

So, over the next few days, we’re starting immediate construction on:

1. A Tall, Reinforced Enclosure

Giraffes need height more than anything.

The enclosure will have reinforced fencing, double-gated entry points, shaded zones, and enough space for the giraffe to move comfortably without feeling confined.

I’ve already sketched a layout that’s roughly three times taller than the shelters I designed for goats and horses.

2. A Proper Walking Path

Giraffes actually enjoy long, quiet walks, so I’m setting aside a meandering path around the perimeter of the farm.

This will allow the giraffe to stretch, explore, and stay mentally stimulated. I’ve started contacting suppliers for non-slip ground materials that won’t hurt its hooves.

3. Emergency Shade Points

Because this is the Philippines and the heat can be unforgiving, I’m adding multiple shade poles and planting fast-growing trees along the walking route.

I know it sounds like a lot, but if you commit to an animal—especially one this majestic—you commit fully.

Introducing the Giraffe to Everyone

Once the enclosure is ready and the giraffe has settled into the farm, I already have a plan for the first big adventure—and honestly, I can’t wait.

I’m going to drive up to my friends’ place and show them the giraffe.

Why a Giraffe?

People will ask. People will question my sanity. People will say this is too much.

But when you love animals, you eventually reach a point where “ordinary” is simply not enough. HayopETC.com was built to celebrate all kinds of pets—from the smallest hamsters to the most misunderstood exotics.

And now, maybe even the tallest.

Besides, I’ve always believed in responsible, ethical care for unusual animals. If I can provide a safe, loving, enriching life for a creature most people only see on TV or in zoos, then that’s a mission worth taking on.

Even if it surprises absolutely everyone.

So… surprise!
